For the past 2 or 3 months, I'd occasionally get a 'beep' when powering down the car. Not every time, but often enough that I wondered if something was wrong, or going wrong.

Over the weekend, I finally got my answer when I (oh the horror) actually had to remove my fob from my pocket and insert it into the dash.

Turns out my fob battery was needing replacing. Since then, the beeps have gone.

I could have told you that 2 -3 months ago. The same thing happened to me about a year ago.

Yeah, I'm getting the beep on shutdown now too.

Replace the fob battery and that will cure your beep. Nothing worse than an uncontrollable beep when others are around.

This is a multi-step process, that is outside of my routine. Open the fob (and The Lovely Mrs. Hep's fob), figure out what size batteries I need, get to the hardware store to buy replacements, and put them in the fobs. Knowing what to do is the easy part. I may have to contract it out.

It takes one of those CR2032 things. I took the one out of our expressway toll transponder. (Hopefully I'll remember to replace it before speeding through a toll booth) You'll also need a phillips head screwdriver from an eyeglass repair kit.

Next, you'll be wanting me to pull over and ask directions. Bah!

Besides, I searched for every varaiation of "What the heck is that noise" I could think of and found nothing that looked like my problem.

I actually got the solution on PriusChat when I experienced the 'beep'. I thought it was being caused by the 12v battery.

Now where here in the eye department would I find a little screwdriver? LOL

Thanks for the battery number Melgish. It saved me a step. No more shut-down beep.

Mine had been doing that for the past 6 months or so. I finally replaced the batteries last week. The hardest part was getting the cover off: You need to push back the key release with one hand, slide the cover back with another hand while holding the fob with your gripping hand. Oh, my covers wouldn't move so I had to start them with a very thin screwdriver tip.

You didn't have to go to all that trouble. You could have had your Watchmaker do it.

On one of my regular stops at my "watchmaker"! My kids don't even wear watches... the cell phone is their "watch".

I just ask the Lovely Mrs. Melgish "What time is it?" every few minutes.
