I am sure that this has been explored and posted previously, just could not find it under the search engine, anyway here goes: :?

I have lost one of my smart keys and am now down to one. I don't want to blow $200-$400 on a new FOB.

If I buy one off eBay, I see they state the Toyota logo is different colors (i.e. black, white, silver...) on the FOB. So is that the only way to match your FOB? By the color or is there something else I should know before buying one?

I have already found the programming information, but I want to make sure I match the correct FOB before buying one.

Thanks for any input!

The black logo fobs are NON-SKS fobs. The silver logo ones are SKS fobs.

That's the information you need to know. Also, you gotta pay Toyota to reprogram the fob.

Or more accurately, program the car to accept the fob.

Make sure it is a fob for a 2004-2006 Prius or it won't work.

Unless you have an EU NHW20, then you have to go to the dealer to program your car to accept the new fob.

Note that a keyfob from a 2004-2005 will not program to a 2006, but the newer keyfobs from a 2006 will work on a 2004-2005. I know I have the part numbers here somewhere... Older fobs part number ends in 47060, newer fobs part number ends in 47061.

Just remember to have your dealer erase all keyfobs and then program in all of your keyfobs together - you don't want someone to find your lost keyfob and steal your car!

And yes, there is the black and the silver Toyota logo on the fobs. One is a "dumb" keyfob (lock/unlock only, black I think) and the other is a Smart keyfob (silver I think).

I would be leary of an eBay auction, particularly of a used keyfob. There have been reports that you cannot reprogram (at least on the older fobs) all of the functions with a used keyfob (engine immobilizer when placed in dash, remote keyless entry, smart entry & start), just maybe the engine immobilizer only.

Tom Stangl mentioned this for discount pricing:

Conicelli sells it for about $155 for a SmartKey version:

Search for part # 8999447061
You'll have to add shipping, which should be less than $10.

and then you'll have to buy the metallic key separately and have that cut, as well.

A while ago I printed some instructions for the smartkey programming that worked for my '04 Prius for both starting the car, the SKS, and the door lock/unlocking. I noticed that they have since disappeared (the website is no longer up)

I believe the owner of the site that this information was posted before was Victor in the PriusChat site. I believe on one of his posts I read he lost the information he had on his site. All credit in this document goes to him.

This was originally posted at the following (now defunct) URL:
http://www.prius-forum.org/tech/smartke ... amming.htm

Hope this helps someone out!

update:
I did a slight edit because of a mistake I made typing, replacing 'registered key' with 'master key' on the delete all keys table... shouldn't affect anyone trying to add keys or do the SKS steps, though... I rechecked the instructions again and they are verbatim to the original document.
